NIce shot! Note the running number of 47840 on the lower body side, a nice touch, but despite the publicity of the repaint the waist skirting was not reapplied at Loughborough, but a damned good job was done anyway, WELL DONE BRUSH!

This day saw 840 rescue 3 trains in an 8 hr period, this is the second, 1A15 Padd - Penzance Motorail. FGW 47815 literally expired at Newton Abbot with a camshaft fault, 840 was the stand- by loco at Newton Abbot this day and it promptly performed sterling work. July 2000

The pennultimate journey. North Star renumbered for this day only to 47077 along with 47847 head out of Newton Abbot bounfd for Birmingham on the last ever Virgin Cross Country Class 47 hauled service. August 2002. A very sad day, but a memorable one for the loco.
